DIY PARTY HATS FOR TABLE DECORATING ON NEW YEAR'S EVE

.

For New Year's table I was looking to decorate it with party items. I couldn't find nice party hats so decided to make my own! It was delightfully easy and so inexpensive to make. The options are endless, but I decided to keep it simple. You can add sparkle dust to the bottom, use tinsel garlands to decorate the rim and add pompoms on top... you name it.

Theme of your table setting and colours for your DIY party hats

For my New Year's table I wanted to stay with the classic colours: black, white and gold. Having a plan in mind before getting your supplies makes the trip to the store so much easier. If you are anything like me, I get distracted with all the options and I end up buying too much!

For this tutorial here's what I used:

  1. Scrapbook cardstock
  2. Hot glue
  3. Scissors
  4. Feathers and sparkly pipe cleaners for decor

DIY PARTY HATS STEP 1 - Apply Hot Glue

Apply the hot glue to one edge of the stock paper.

DIY PARTY HATS STEP 2 - Fold the paper into a cone

Do this fast before the hot glue dries! Then cut the bottom with scissors to make an even base. You can cut some shorter than others to give an interesting effect.

DIY PARTY HATS STEP 3 - Cut an opening

To make sure your top decorations fit, cut a small hole at the top. Be careful not to make it too wide!

DIY PARTY HATS STEP 4 - Even out the base

Cut the excess paper with scissors. You can make shorter than others for an interesting visual effect.

DIY PARTY HATS STEP 5 - Decorate the tops

To make the curly pipe-cleaner tops, use a pencil or any cylindrical object to curl the pipe-cleaner on. Then gently pull out and thats it! Insert as many as you wish. If your hole is too wide, you can secure the decorations with some hot glue.

And that's it! you are done. Make sure to use different patterns to give a more fun result to your table.
